The City of Granite Falls Electrical Distribution Department has been providing the City of Granite Falls with safe, cheap, and efficient electric power since 1911.
Recently, the City has completed a $2 million project to upgrade the Granite Falls Hydroelectric Plant in order to make electrical generation and distribution even more efficient and reliable. The hydroelectric plant contains three hydro turbines and generators. The two smaller turbines are rated at 250 kilowatts and the larger turbine is rated at 750 kW. At times, the hydro plant meets approximately 30 percent of the city's total electric need and is projected to potentially increase with the recent upgrades.
The project includes upgrades to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems, sandblasting and painting of the flood gates as well as engineering, design, and construction.
